THE CHANDIGARH administration will organise a yoga festival in the city before the International Yoga Day event in the city on June 21 — which will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to UT administration officials, the festival which will be organised in the city is aimed at creating awareness among the people about yoga.
“Before the June 21 event, we will organise a yoga festival in the city,” Chandigarh deputy commissioner Ajit Balaji Joshi, who is also the nodal officer of June 21 event, told Chandigarh Newsline on Sunday. “It will be organised for two-three days and the details are being finalised.”
Joshi said the festival would be organised for all sections of the society and youth will be the main focus. “In a day or two, we will be able to share more details about the event,” he said.
Another official said the event is aimed to create awareness among the youth. “During the festival, details about yoga in general will be provided to the participants,” the official said.
He added that other than display of how yoga is performed, literature will be given to those who will attend the festival. “This even is not directly linked to the June 21 event but it will be beneficial because awareness will be created,” the official said.
The official added, “The Chandigarh administration has plans to carry forward yoga-related initiatives in the city after the June 21 event as well.” The UT administration has selected the Capitol Complex as the venue for the June 21 event. Around 30,000 participants are expected to tun up for the event, which will be held for one hour in the morning. The administration has also floated a tender for the company for making arrangements for the participants.
