Sirsasana (headstand)

Sirsasana means head posture and this is probably one of the best known Yoga postures in the West. Nevertheless, it is in fact an advanced asana that is too strenuous for a great many westerners, for whom the milder shoulder stand provides a suitable alternative.

It is not suitable for persons suffering from high blood pressure or from diseases of the eyes, ears and brain. If in doubt about the suitability of this posture, seek medical advice.

Advantages:

  • Congestion in the feet, legs, pelvis and abdomen is eased.
  • Arterial blood flows to the neck, the face and the brain hence the posture’s reputation for increasing both beauty and intellect.
  • The facial tissue and roots of the hairs and nourished with blood.

It refreshes body and mind.
